The Port Charles drama that grips General Hospital fans on a daily basis obviously impressed the Writer Guild of America because the organization named the series as the Best Daytime Drama for the second year in a row.
Former head writer Ron Carlivati and the GH writing team were awarded with the honor at the 68th Annual WGA awards that took place on February 13 in Los Angeles. They beat The Bold and the Beautiful (the only other soap opera nominated) with their submission of three scripts, one of which included the 52nd anniversary episode that centered around Luke's (Anthony Geary) history and why he morphed into Fluke.
"Congratulations to our amazing @GeneralHospital writing team on their #WGAAwards win! So proud!" tweeted the show's executive producer, Frank Valentini, after the team's achievement.
Jason Thompson (ex-Patrick Drake; Billy Miller, The Young and the Restless), Michelle Stafford (Nina Clay; ex-Phyllis Summers, Y&R), and Rebecca Herbst (Elizabeth Webber) also joined in on congratulating GH's writing staff, with Thompson posting, "Congrats Ron and team. That's gotta feel nice," Stafford writing, "Congratulations to THE AMAZING writing team of #GH for just winning the @wga award 4 the second year in a row!! Well deserved u crazy kids!" and Herbst writing, "Congrats #GH writing team on your #WGAAward."
In addition to honoring GH's writing team (which included Carlivati, Anna Theresa Cascio, Andrea Archer Compton, Suzanne Flynn, Kate Hall, Elizabeth Korte, Daniel James O'Connor, Elizabeth Page, Jean Passanante, Katherine Schock, Scott Sickles, and Chris Van Etten), the WGA honored Days of our Lives writer Melissa Salmons with the Richard B. Jablow Award for her service with the guild.
